Annie Duke mightn’t have earned her 1st WSOP Bracelet until ‘04 but she remains one of the most powerful poker competitors at the ring matches at The Bellagio in vegas. Annie’s longawaited World Series of Poker bracelet came with a win at the "forgotten game" of Omaha hi/lo.
While players from the "younger crowd" of poker run crazy following a huge win at the tournament, Annie goes back home to be "mom" to her 4 children. Annie was born in New Hampshire into a family of card competitors. If you don’t believe that, check out her brother, Howard Lederer, in action who educated her how to wager on the game.
However, Mrs. Duke is no small change girl and has won her cut of challenging tables, including eliminating Howard along the way on a couple of occasions. They’re both competitors that have the capability to capture the large $$$$$ and do so with a grin.
Annie is a tough player at any table because she is a natural poker player, but it is a bit more than simply being strong at the game. Annie is very intelligent and graduated from Columbia University where she took a double major in Psychology and English.
When you sit across from her at the poker table you’ll see she is there to compete in the game and she starts "summing" you up from the time you sit down at the poker table. If you cannot bet like a winner, then don’t waste your time.
Acquiring over $3 million in tournament play, Annie became a adviser to both UltimateBet.com and Hollywood actor Ben Affleck, who wished to hone his abilities and develop into a force at the tables.
You will likely see her at the Bellagio, you’ll notice Annie on the television and you might even play against her in an online poker game, but don’t count on an easy win. Unless you’re a champion-in-the-making, you’ll not beat her. However, it would be fun to mention you sat at the same table as "The Duke".
