Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
