Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed participating in different card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games while playing his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he would play many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus more on the game.
The definite advancement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would often challenge one another. He had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his strategic thinking abilities. He used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker world today. Howard relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
