Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he liked taking part in different card games at a young age. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to compete in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he would play extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus more on the game.

The real advancement in his skills began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would regularly challenge one another. Howard had access into a number of the greatest minds in chess. Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
